Hi

I have got a Gskill Trident z 4000mhz class18 attached to a Asus Strix z370 F

When i tried to Use Custom XMP to set the DRAM to 4000mhz.

I did not change anything but the core speed and the DRAM Only the rest were set to Auto.

But my system is unable to load windows.

I have used memtest to test each memory module and they all turned out fine.

But when i set the DRAM at the BIOS to 3200Mhz then everything works perfectly.

Can some one tell me what is wrong?

Why can't i use the full potential of the Memory even though the Mobo can support 4000mhz.

I already have already flashed BIOS to the latest BIOS.

do the step down setting in XMP.

it is XMP and not guarenteed to work on every mobo in every config.

also you arent actually gaining much if anything past 3400mhz. and real gains stop at 3000/3200mhz.

Can you explain by "stop at 3200Mhz".

Do you have a link to this info.

i cant dig up links right now, but tl;dw with a few exceptions, any gains start slowing at 2666/2933mhz and drop sharply off at 3400mhz iirc. bang for buck region being 3000/3200mhz.

there are a few workloads here there are exceptions.

run the memmory as high as you can, but it wont increase much in performance with the exception of a few workloads.
