FPS with RTX 2080

I currently have a prebuild(7700, and 1070, 16gb RAM, SSD) and am going to buy an ACER XG270HU(144hz, 1440p) and am going to build a new gaming pc. I am deciding between an RTX 2070/2080 for driving the monitor. I mainly play Rainbow Six Seige and rise of the tomb raider and some VR. The only settings I can tell a difference with is the texture quality(no AA, or anything like that) any recommendations? I have the money for the 2080 but am worried about spending an extra $200 for settings I cannot even notice. thx

I would say that the RTX 2080 is worth it! The 2070 would almost be a bit too weak for 1440p 144Hz in some games but It would be a good choice aswell. Get the 2080 if you don't want to upgrade to a new GPU in at least 4 years but a 2070 if you're going to upgrade GPU in 2 years either way.

And by that I mean the 2070 will struggle to get stable 144 FPS at highest settings in some games

the 2080 is worth it for the raw power to drive 1440p/144 in most games, even the 2080 ti falls short in some games. The 2070 is the worst deal out of the bunch since it's only 5-10% faster than a 2060 for 350usd.

With 2080 expect ~80fps in ROTR max settings at 1440p, >144fps in Rainbow Six Seige max settings, and as per the usual 90fps in VR. 

VR will take all the performance you will throw at it. If the card can run the game at max settings with no reprojection just up super sampling to the max it will go.
