Hi guys, I just built my PC and have the following specs

Intel Core i7 9700k
16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram
rtx 2080 asus turbo (using pci-e riser due to ITX case)
Asus Z390i strix itx motherboard
1TB PCI NVME SSD
Corsair SF600

I get this problem called Kernel Power 41 (Task 63). This has only occurred when on light loads e.g. browsing, and never when gaming. My temps are fine... CPU 50, GPU max 70. It results in a crash and restart.

I have used DDU and reinstalled drivers multiple times. One of the crashes resulted in me not even be able to boot into windows, and i had to use the "reset my pc and keep all files" setting on windows recovery. This has only happened once.

When using "whocrashed" application it analyses the crash dump and says its this

On Sun 27/01/2019 16:15:44 your computer crashed or a problem was reported
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP
This was probably caused by the following module: nvlddmkm.sys (nvlddmkm+0x1fbe2a)
Bugcheck code: 0x133 (0x0, 0x501, 0x500, 0xFFFFF8051D3F4380)
Error: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
file path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_5db32447b43ce666\nvlddmkm.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 417.71
company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 417.71
Bug check description: The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above. This could be caused by either a non-responding driver or non-responding hardware. This bug check can also occur because of overheated CPUs (thermal issue).
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 417.71 , NVIDIA Corporation).
Google query: nvlddmkm.sys NVIDIA Corporation DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

Anyone help please?

Could this be a power supply problem - not enough wattage (Nvidia recommend 650 but it is a ITX build?), could it be the PCI riser cable?

Touching wood

Could it be the case of the SM Bus Controller not being installed? I have just installed this (albeit it was for Z370 as I could not find Z390) from Intel, it was showing as no driver installed for it before. This monitors the motherboards temperature, voltage and allocates power etc and is related to this "kernel power" problem.

Hope it was this!!!!
