Rad Fan Replacement

Go to solution Solved by Ryan Leech,

why does it have a 5 Watt max on each channel?

To stop an idiot from blowing it.

I have this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811992005

I have 2x140mm rad fans, and 3x120mm case fans running off of it

Currently I have 2 Corsair SP120 HP fans on my Seidon 120xl. theyre freaking loud. Theres obviously no better static pressure fan on the market so finding one with similar specs thats quieter is hard. I'm looking at the Cougar Vortex PWM. They have good airflow with a SP of 2.2. Plus they have the "Diversion Groove Blade" that says it focuses the air inward, which seems like it would be very good for a radiator. Does anyone think this would be a good replacement if im seeking quietness without sacraficing too much performance, or are there others that may work better. I would prefer a match to my red and black build. http://www.cougar-world.com/us/products/fans/vortex_pwm.html

Also, I would have them in push pull.

I have those fans and they are loud when being run at 12V, i usually have them at 7V and turn them up to 12V when gaming. If there is any easy way for you to do this i can recommend it because they are very quiet at 7V, and if you want to go further you can't even hear them at 5V! They are good fans so it's a shame to replace i would think.

I agree they are great and don't mind the noise gaming but a lower level for non gaming would be great. how is it that I can lower the voltage I didn't know that was possible.

Noctua nf-f12s. They provide the same temps as the sp120s and they are SUPER quiet. The only trade off you would be making is the fact that they are a shitty brown color. IMO its worth it

Buy a fan controller...or buy some Nocutas

Would the NZXT Sentry Mix 2 be a good option. I wouldnt mind getting the Sentry 2 or Sentry LX but they don't appear to support the Sp120's being 12V. Am I reading that wrong or would they work?

Just about any fan controller would work.

it says that the Sentry Mix 2 has a 10 Watt max per channel and the Sentry LX only has a 5 Watt Max. Does that refer to something different or will the 12 Watt SP120's be limited to that max?

The NZXT Sentry should be good.
