So I am just curious what others of you may be using extra USB 2.0 headers on the motherboard for.

I personally have enough USB 2.0 and 3.0 slots available. The fans are being controlled by the motherboard's software so there is no need for a fan controller, my case has that option built in as well, I also do not do anything with video or image capture so no need for a card reader either.

Does anyone have any other ideas for uses of the extra header?

I have a fan controller plugged into one, because the manual fan controller from the Define R4 isn't quite pleasing and the options on an MSI motherboard are rather limited (at least i haven't found anything great yet).

Also my Bluetooth/Wifi expansion card needs a USB port.

who cares...

I uses an Asus Z87 Sabertooth and the fan controller it comes with is pretty nice once you set it up. I use the R4 as well.

Is that an adapter or an actual expansion card?

It's one that goes into your 5.25" bays. It has 5 fan headers 10W each, and some thermal sensors to control the fan speed automatically, or ofc manual controll. It's controlled via touch pad OR via internet (that's why it has the USB plug).

who cares...

You can buy an adapter that converts an internal USB header to a full USB port. So, for some reason, you can run a USB device internally. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200474

One of Intel's PCIe Wireless AC cards uses a USB header for Bluetooth 4.0.
