GPU for CAD ??

Go to solution Solved by Firewrath9,

Budget? AMD cards tend to be good at CAD

RX 580 for 250 USD, then WX5100/P2000 for 350-400 USD, then Vega 64/P4000 for 600-800 USD, then WX 8200 for 800USD.

Hi, I am building a workstation for another person and admittedly don't know too much about parts selection for a workstation. My main issue is what would be the best value GPU to get for StonePro which is essentially a CAD software?

all i want is another great halo game.

Hard to say without knowing more about the application. Usually for things like that you are looking at either Quadro or Radeon pro cards. Most GPUs will work really. If the program doesn't need a lot of graphics memory, consumer cards might work just fine. Radeon 580 8gb cards can be got pretty cheaply and perform pretty good.

I'm currently running a Quadro P2000 for my CAD card. Works great.

Here's the Quadro P-series lineup (Here's some info on the cards) Which card you get depends greatly on what your budget is. (This list is excluding the GP because it's hard to find and extremely over the top).

Quadros are better for CAD because they're more stable. While consumer cards crash often in CAD workloads, the Quadro series is quite stable.

Open for intern / part-time. Good at maths, CAD and airflow stuff. Dabbled with Python.

The only thing Quadro will give you is more VRAM up to 44GB VRAM with their 10k card.  So if you can grab something with 8 or 11GB VRAM youl will be ok.  This is the reason they cost soo much is because of its memory and what have you.  Other then that the power of the cards gaming or Quadro or Vega is relatively close in performance and what not.  The only thing is those workstation video cards offer full OpenGL support for 3D Studio Max and Maya and so on.
