Hi,

just bought a used laptop that was thermal thrortling so I have changed the thermal paste. But the problem that i got now is fluctuating temp, but i mean a lot. When i do cpu stress i got to 50C to all the way up at 85C in about 1-2 seconds and after came down to 70C and go up to 80-90. Never have this problem before and I really like to have stable temp.

My laptop is a y510p without SLI.

Sorry for my bad english..

Welcome to laptops. where limited space means a trade off in thermal allowances.

it's really not unusual for CPU's/GPU's in laptops to run on the hot side and reach those temps quickly. as long as you're not thermal throttling, there's nothing that seems wrong

At a certain point it reach 98C and disable turbo boost..

ok, than you've got a problem. when you took it apart to put on thermal paste, you have somehow harmed the thermals.

recommendation? Take it all apart again. clean up whatever you can. reapply thermal paste (and ensure you do it right). then rebuild everything again making sure that everything is properly seated and connected

Laptop tolerances are very VERY small. any error in re-assembly, or even poor thermal paste application can lead to this problem. Probably why for laptosp it's generally not recommended that you don't open them up. unless you now very well what you're doing

i've try.. no change..

Could it be a lack of pressure from the heatsink?
