I recently purchased a Quanta LB4M Netowork Switch for my home network, but I can't seem to be able to access the console. I read online that you could use an Ethernet to USB adapter, and access the console that way. So I purchased an Amazon Basics USB 2 ----> Fast Ethernet Adapter, and Installed Tera Term on my PC to try and access the Switch. The Tera Term Program will not detect the Adapter, it only shows that one COM port is active, but it is not the correct one. Does anyone have any other ideas?

That cable is cute but I prefer the regular RS-232 DB9 method, even if it is two cables, because now you have a regular serial cable. Also not everybody uses the Rollover pinout that Cisco made popular.

With that cable, can I still use Tera Term to view the console?

If it uses a rollover pinout on the console port, yes. I tried looking around for a second to see if other people mention the pinout and I didn't see anything right away so you might need to do some digging.

A Cable like this is exactly what you are supposed to use for Tera Term. When you plug in the USB end to your computer it will show up as a new COM port, and that is what you tell Tera Term to connect to. This cable is for a Rollover pinout, which is just a certain way the serial pins can be mapped onto the RJ45 connector. It is the most common pinout for console cables for networking equipment. It is also referred to as a Cisco-style console cable because Cisco were the first to make rollover popular (originally they wanted to force you to buy their cables, but then most other brands copied them anyway)
