Finally doing 2FA... Which provider?

I've been intending to setup two factor authentication for a while now, and with a recent potentially phishing scare (it turned to be legit but for a few minutes I thought my mom had given out her paypal password to a phishing website) ,it brought password security to my mind again. I'm currently leaning toward Authy for its ease of use when switching devices but Google Authenticator is another option. Then there are lastpass and microsoft authenticator to think about. I honestly can't decide which solution to go with.

@OP I use google Authenticator for all my 2FA. Works a charm.

As far as I know, there's the same technology behind most 2FA tools. I use Authy because it lets you set up more than 1 device and I want to be able to access my services in case I would lose my smartphone. I don't use Lastpass because that's already my password store and I don't want to have all my security information managed by the same provider.

I've also been using Google Authenticator as my 2FA, can't complain. I also have Microsoft authenticator for a MS service that I have 2FA on and I also use the Steam app for Steam Guard, Steam's 2FA mechanism.

best to use multiple on multiple devices coz if u need to factory reset a single device they generaly dont come back with the accounts intact if restoring from a back up and then u have to go through all the sites provided u can get into them and get support to deactivate 2fa so u can log in and get set back up and some sites have an extra security layer where they will take upto three days to do this for u and usualy lots of emails back and forth confirming its definatly you asking them to do it

I've been using Authy, mostly due to device sync with passwords/PIN protection. SO if I use the phone I can just restore everything on another device. I don't recommend Google Authenticator because it only has a local install on your phone, so if yo ulose your phone or do a factory reset, you have to disable and enable it from the beginning for every page/app you registered. It's just inconvenient for me.

Lastpass Authenticator and Lastpass. Yes, I know, terrible practice, am planning to switch it up, so I'll be following this thread for recommendations also, but I like the fingerprint protection of both apps.

I have yet to adopt a proper password manager but I imagine it's best to use separate providers. That way, even if some catastrophic failure leaks your data, it's either passwords or 2FA codes, not both. I started using Authy though and it's great. Easy to use and with cloud backup.
