Ok, so i've got a question, are any brands/cooler types (Like Sapphire R9 290 with a reference cooler vs a Sapphire Tri-X card) likely to get a specific brand of memory (VRAM), because I would greatly prefer a card with Hynix Memory?

Thanks!

PS: This due to having to RMA two of these cards due to Blackscreen issues and surprise surprise they both had Elpida memory

Your GPU doesn't rely on your system memory since it has its own intergrated on the card.

APUs do rely on memory a bit more though.

I meant the VRAM on the card, not the system memory, thanks for the reply though :)

My "old" 290 got so many blackscreens so i guess that it is using elpida, but least asus uses hynix with all of their cards.

(So maybe most of other brands use it too)

Well, generally, unless you OC the card like hell without being carefull about voltages, every type of memory/memory brand should be fine. BTW the reference R9 290X and the Tri-X version, it's the same PCB, just a different cooler, I have the R9 290 Tri-X, the PCB is the same as the 290 Reference, which is a 290X originally.

Both my 290x's from asus use Elpida and I have no issues at all and I can put them to 1100 core 1300 mem. I think I just got very lucky.

I got two Asus reference 290's with Elpida memory. I know that because I waterblocked the cards. Hopefully the memory doesn't show problems, but one thing is for sure though; the Elpida memory doesn't OC well at least on these cards.
