is that a good combo?

It'll work and look nice. What more are you thinking about with it?

you mean what i'm gonna do with it?

it'll run Manjaro as main OS, with a Windows VM for gaming.

it will have 16gb of ram

a GTX 780Ti for the host and an R9 290X passed through to the VM

a few hdd's and ssd's.

will it be ok for that? and can i overclock it in this config?

Yeah, it'll be fine. I'd have to check deeper if the 8+3 VRMs is the real or the doubled 4-phase like Asus, but that would only matter if you're overclocking the 2700X. It should run fine, so long as it has clean passthrough with the OS you're using.

Per some looking around, the board seems fine. It's not a high-overclocker because it lacks significant cooling for the VRMs, but if you're leaving things stock it's fine. However, it appears there is some QC issues and the Newegg user reviews aren't kind.

Is there a reason you want such an expensive mobo? You could get a good one for about $80 or so, I’d say you shouldn’t spend more then $100...

but your choice I guess

edit: nevermind, I didn’t realize you were using USD

I agree about that cpu, but not about that mobo.

the x370 msi boards had vrm problems... and especially at that price I wouldn't get it.

the b450 fatal1ty is only 90 bucks, b450 tomahawk 105,

you can even get a x470 fatal1ty at that price

I've seen the pro4 going up to 3,8-3,9 on a 2600 already. and all of these have better vrms. about Linux compatability I'm not sure...

well... you should be able to overclock it higher, but as far as I can see the difference between 2400 and 2800/3000 is about 10 euro's...

MSI's 300-series weren't good. Their 400-series boards have some ridiculous cooling capacity (i.e. they're ready for Zen2).

Get the 3000 Memory. 2400 to 3000 will do more than any OC. Beyond 3000 doesn't do much but for a few game engines.

overclocking ram should be possible, but as I can look into his pricing the 10 euro difference is worth it imo
