Hackintosh Problems

Yeah, I was thinking that IDE mode will not work. I'll probably have to re-install :( and the reason why I picked Snow Leopard was that after that, they were only availiable off of the Mac App Store, so I couldn't download it since neither me nor my friends actually have a Mac. And thanks for explaining what a DSDT was, it pprobably is somewhere on the tonymacx86 forums, but the way the forum is configured makes it nearly impossible to find the things that you actually want.

And the specs are:

  • Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
  • Seagate Barracuda 1TB (although installing Mac OSX on an OCZ Vertex 3)
  • i5-3570k
  • 8GB Corsair RAM
  • GTX 760 EVGA ACX
  • Gigabyte WiFi/Bluetooth adapter (GC-WB300D)
  • Sony Optiarc DVD Dvive

That motherboard doesn't require a DSDT, at least on Mountain Lion and Mavericks. I assume the same goes for Snow Leopard.

I also just realised your GPU may not work in Snow Leopard at all in fact. You'll have to use on board graphics.

Everything is compatible however the wifi card may not work. I haven't used a Hackintosh with Snow Leopard before and I have always used Multibeast.

Try this guide: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/iboot-multibeast-install-mac-os-x-on.html

You could probably find someone on the forum who has the same specs as you. But I really would recommend using a newer version especially with those specs as it could cause issues.

I've decided to hackintosh my computer, so I downloaded all of the necessary stuff like Snow Leopard, iBoot Ivybridge and the software drivers.

My question is: 'Will the Hackintosh work if my SATA mode is IDE?'

Whenever I change my SATA mode to AHCI, and start Windows, the computer doesn't start up, it always bluescreens.

Also, another question is 'What is a DSDT?' I am lost amongst loads of these pieces of software, I cannot find the applicable one for my motherboard.

thanks :)

Compatible with Windows 95

I understand it as only some motherboards need a DSDT. I didn't use one. I've never heard of or experienced the other problem you are talking about. Try the forums at tonymacx86 where the real hackintosh pro's are around.

Yeah, I tried there, but the forums there confuse me. I can't find anything there; it's vBulletin 4.

Do you know anything about booting in IDE?

it doesn't work for me either. Something like this but in grey and smaller appears after booting for about a minute: http://dlall4free.ucoz.com/Access_Denied.png

Edit: Why do you even want to use IDE?

This is normal. You cant change the SATA mode after a windows installation and except it to still boot. In order to do this you will need to tweak a registry setting. (BTW you should ALWAYS be in AHCI mode else you are sacrificing speed).

How do I tweak the registry to do this?

There are a few things to consider when running a Hackintosh. First compatibility, check on the tonymacx86 or somewhere if your parts are compatible. They are very specific requirements. The hard drives need to be in AHCI mode, I believe IDE simply doesn't work.

Also normally Mac OS has to be installed before Windows due to the way the bootloader works, but I'm not entirely sure, at least that is what I did.

One more thing is there any particular reason you wan't to use Snow Leopard? I had that on my iMac back in 2009, there have been three new versions since, Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks. I used the chameleon bootloader using Unibeast to make my Hackintosh, I am not familiar with the old iBoot way.

DSDT are pieces of software that allows the motherboard to work correctly, not all motherboards require one and you need to find the specific one.

If you don't mind me asking can you post your computer specs here so I can see if it may or may not work?

I am going to assume you are on windows 7

To resolve this issue, enable the AHCI driver in the registry before you change the SATA mode of the boot drive. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

now restart your pc and go straight into the BIOS (DO NOT let it boot up or you will have to re-do it). Select AHCI save and restart again.

Enjoy the extra HDD speed :)

Just one question: Is there any way that this can fuck up my PC? I really don't want to fuck it up; I have a £250 copy of office on here amongst other things.

Dont you have the serial backed up? :P

Not unless you edit the wrong thing no, just dont let it reboot after you have changed it else it will go back to IDE mode and you will have to re edit the registry
