OK so new to the forums but substance based question that I can't really find a good answer to, or that doesn't lead me down the road of just going to a dual PC setup.

Current Rig

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Processor

64 GB ram

Radeon RX 480 (8GB onboard ram)

Heres the situation I am running a Single computer Gaming/Streaming Rig with an underpowered GPU for the processing I need. I've pushed processing for the stream to the CPU but end up with a bottleneck on both when doing highly instance graphics... This said Im not going to play the I want 1080 stream and crazy FPS I know the limits but I want to push more than I am getting.. What I am aiming for is a second GPU (truth told a replacement for the main and want to continue to use the 480 as a second GPU for OBS to use.

Now with the understanding on what I want to do, here is the question.

Can I put in a new card (staying in the AMD Radeon Family) like the new AMD R7 (announced at CES2018) and have that run my games and on the same motherboard as my 480 and have OBS utilize the 480 for stream processing

I've done things similar to this, but it is a bit tricky since OBS has no way to select which graphics card to use. It is easier if you have an NVIDIA card to run the games and an AMD card to do the recording, since you can select whether you want to use the NVIDIA or AMD encoder.

I've done it with two NVIDIA cards, but it seems OBS uses the card in the first slot when there are multiple of the same brand, so I plugged all my monitors into the second card so that would be the one used for gaming. You might be able to do that too if you want two AMD cards, but there's really no sure way of knowing how the system or software will react, or if it will change behavior with future updates.
