70GB vanished?

benji_

So on my ssd I like to keep it above 100gb if just so there is always space, but after installing fallout76 to my hdd, 70 odd GB has gone from my sdd. You'd think that I'd installed fo76 to the ssd but I checked and its on my hdd. When checking properties of all surface folders they do not equate to 130gb. Anyone have a clue? Maybe cacheing of hidden files?

SSD in general wares out over time.

You may want to get a new one to replace it.

It is just facts I have read about SSD. You must have picked up a high-quality SSD for lasting you a long time.

According to Bethesda's website you need

Quote

Storage: 60 GB available space

In your case, this sudden loss of storage may just be temp files/folders. Run CCleaner to clear that out. I had once transferred almost 100gbs worth of data from one external HDD to another, and the hard drive in the PC that I used had suddenly lost almost 80gb of space. I had not transferred data to the PC's hard drive, only from one external drive to the other external drive. I had found out through another tech forum that it was just temp files. Ran CCleaner and got all 80gbs back. This is what makes me think you have a bunch of temp folders from the install.

You probably have a folder that keeps track of Windows updates called "Windows, .old", I've seen it increase over time to 80GB (Yes, that's crazy!), I will paste some images as examples:

  1. Delete Windows.old Folder after a Windows 10 Upgrade 02
  2. Delete-Windows.old-after-the-Windows-10-Fall-Creators-Update-02.png
  3. Resultado de imagen para windows.old size

The official way to delete Windows.old is through Microsoft's integrated disk cleanup utility. You can access it in different ways:

  • Delete-Windows.old-after-the-Windows-10-Fall-Creators-Update-05.png

Or

  • Imagen relacionada

There, we go to the "Clean up system files" option.

  • Delete-Windows.old-after-the-Windows-10-Fall-Creators-Update-06.png

The disk cleanup utility will reload. Among the options, we will find the "Previous Windows installation(s)."

  • Delete-Windows.old-after-the-Windows-10-Fall-Creators-Update-07.png

Checking it, clicking OK, and confirming our action will delete Windows.old.

  • Delete-Windows.old-after-the-Windows-10-Creators-Update-10.png
