I'm wanting to build my first PC as its my 17th birthday coming up.  My budget would be around $1100 (AUD) for the PC and i will need to buy a keyboard and monitor as well. I want to use PC Case gear as i have had good experience with them in the past. The monitor i will be buying locally but the keyboard i will want to buy at the same time as the rest of the parts.

I will mainly be using it for mainstream games at 1080p on the highest settings i can afford in the budget and some web browsing.  I want it to be small and portable yet able to be expandable which is why i went with the bitfenix prodigy.  I wouldn't mid having a play around with overclocking in the future for a bit of fun, nothing serious, so i thought i would leave off an aftermarket cooler until the time comes.   I will need an OS , windows 8 preferred as that's what I'm used to on my laptop.

For a keyboard i would like a solid nice keyboard nothing to fancy that doesn't have a numpad so i can fit it on the keyboard tray in my desk.  Mechanical would be best if there is as much difference as people say in them.

This is the build i was thinking but any tips to save some money or improve it would be much appreciated.

There's no point getting a k series cpu with a h87 chipset. You need a z87 mobo if you want to oc.

Add in a ssd.

Is wifi needed?

Not all mechanical switches are the same. Find out which switch you prefer before gambling on a keyboard.

Are you limited to pccasegear or are you open to other Aus shops?

Edit: This should be in New Builds and Planning, not Build Logs.

It looks like that parts list you have put together is somewhat over your budget and doesnt include the monitor you need. I would say change the CPU to an amd CPU as they are cheaper, change the PSU to a non modular one, they are very messy but much cheaper, dont get a mechanical keyboard you can't really afford that expense just get a regular compact keyboard.

Or u could 'obtain' the os some other way and get a better gpu or whatever you want to have better. Just sayin since shit here in aus is overpriced anyways might aswell make the most of it.

My advice would be to get non over clock version of the CPU as you mostly likely are using the stock heatsink and also put that money into a 80 plus gold power supply, I recommend seasonic. Plus PC Case gear will release new ripjaws soon that are $3 cheaper and a tiny bit better. Also maybe consider a 60gb ssd for your boot drive.

I like how you said that ;)

other than that might wanna get a i5 non k cpu and spend more on the gpu
