Hey guys, I'm building a Hackintosh for a friend of mine and I was wondering if this build would be compatible or not. I know that the motherboard would be the biggest issue but i read this board is the most compatible one out there. If it isnt compatible, please tell me what the compatibility issue would be. Thanks!!

Gigabyte boards are generally the best for hackintoshes with the least problems.

What's the system being used for?

Motherboard is good (sound/network) and GPU is good to go. All that really matters.

The rest looks like high quality parts as well. Enjoy the Hackintosh. Someone prob has a full guide for that board on Tony Mac, if you are unsure what options to pick on the bootstick. Gigabyte's are very popular for Hackintosh. Boards like mine? You need a network kext post install, which makes it a little trickier.

If you are using a real mac keyboard mouse wireless don't forget the bluetooth dongle. Other then that you are good to go.

I think he'll be using it for general use. He is a teacher and a water polo coach so he will be using it for putting in grades online and for showing game film to his students. Im worried that the pc will cause him problems since it is not a real mac system

Will any graphics card work in a hackintosh? I thought there were special graphics cards for this purpose.

There are some graphics cards that work and some that do not. They do not have to be Mac branded to work.

The system is quite overkill for general use.

Is wifi needed for the system? What about the peripherals?

Looks pretty good. Use this website to check if everything works and for tutorials. Many on the forum including myself use it.

Everything in your profile is fine (if you want to run Mac OS) but the MB might give you issues. The GPU have is golden with NVenabler, and the ducore was in Imac's.

All the R9's but the 290, and just about all the new Nvidia's and most old Nvidia's and quite a few AMD series as well. Integrated on intel works fine because they were used on lower end imac's, What matters is if that cards mobile or desktop series was used in a Mac at some point. If it was? They are compatible. Some out of box, some with a install option.

What matters most is onboard network/sound.  This is why Hackintosh is trickier on a laptop (to the point some don't even bother and buy a Mac book), though some older versions might work like Snow Leopard.

Mouse/keyboard and all that don't matter. USB is USB. You can use the mac ones, or use other ones. Webcam. Some logitech cams work out of box or you can buy a real mac cam off ebay. Printers etc. Again USB is USB. Reason Gigabyte boards work so well is the network/sound are damn near native or are native. It isn't to say you can't run other boards, but the install is trickier.

In the end a Mac is a Intel PC with an intel chipset and realtek sound/network and intel integrates, AMD or Nvidia GPU. Kexts can be written for series close to native stuff, but post install is trickier, but not impossible.

AMD CPU's have a hard time running new versions. Boards like Gigabyte are just painless on updates, which is why they are liked so much. On other boards you may have to re install kexts on a update etc.

You can even make a "fusion drive" with a SSD and a HD.

A hackintosh isn't emulation. It is as much a "real mac" as a mac is. Just runs cooler, overclocks, has better components etc. If Apple made a desktop worth a damn, and if Microsoft didn't have a monopoly on Direct X for games, I would have one. Mac OS and Mac software is fantastic and affordable. Kids love things like Imovie and stuff. Their hardware? Is junk, outside IPS panels made by LG that get an apple on them. Fantastic OS in everything but games. Mantle may change that a bit as they said they want it to be on Linux and Mac OS.

The one and only thing a hackintosh can't do better then a real mac is thunderbolt. You can buy thunderbolt motherboards but support is so so. Might get better but atm they have issues. Thunderbolt is meh though, so who really cares. All the thunderbolt stuff costs too much anyways.
