Didnt specify the model of i5 so that sucks, but for $300 CAD even the worst quad core 3.8GHz i5 is worth buying. I'd say it's good.

What kind of games are you going to be playing? Judging by the 8 year old Graphics card, I could imagine the CPU is from around the same time frame.

 

I would say for the price it wouldn't be all that bad for light gaming (Fortnite, League of Legends, etc.) But if you're expecting to play AAA with relatively high settings I would not recommend it. Not to mention if it is used it, and if the previous owner overclocked it, or mucked around with it another way... You can not be too sure how long it will last you.

 

In a nut shell, if you don't have the money for a new machine, and you're willing to bring down the graphics settings a bit, for $300 it's not awful. I'd just be worried about the longevity of such a rig.

btw this build isnt all that upgradable when it comes to CPU and GPU. The CPU platform is just old and not fast, while a GPU upgrade will be bottlenecked by the CPU

I probably wouldn't. You could buy something with similar performance for not that much more new, have full warranty, and get a couple of free games in the deal.

It's not that great of a deal.

Why would someone be using CAD in the US?

because habits :P Also $300 US is barely enough for 2200G system (many things cut corners), just the HD 7970 will make sure the old system beats the new one.

True, but for just an extra $100ish you can build a system with an RX570, and it comes with two free games. If they're games he wants, it greatly reduces the overall cost.

Since he's willing to buy used, you can find much, much better deals than this system.
