So since I upgraded to an AIO i have been getting some weird USB connect / disconnect issues.
Mobo: MSI Z370 ROMAHAWK

After installing my AIO and my Corsair Commander my AIO sometimes disconnects for just a couple of seconds.

This happens everytime I plug in / unplug my Logitech steering wheel  from a USB port. Why is this happening?

All my USB devices:
- Mousemath
- Mouse
- keyboard
- headset

- wireless charger

- bluetooth dongle

- fingerprint reader

- webcam

- Commander Pro, Internal

- AIO, internal
- I think thats all of em, might have missed one

EDIT:
headset is on the front IO USB3.0
And the steering wheel is always on the front IO USB2.0.
ofc both connected to their own USB2 header on the mobo.
the pump and commander share 1 usb 2 header since the commander pro also acts as a usb2 splitter. it has IO for 2 internal USB2 headers.

I am here to learn, please correct me if im wrong or you see me putting bs on your screen!

could you please list which ones are USB 2.0 and which are 3.0?

Do the port on the back of the mobo matter? cause i cant unplug all of it atm

I know my headset is in USB3 on front IO. On the back, maybe my keyboard?, i would have to check later.

Things such as your keyboard, mouse, speakers only need USB 2 because they can't really take advantage of the speed that USB 3.0 offers.  So if possible, plug those items in to the back of the mobo using the USB 2.0 slots (USB 2.0 has a black connector inside of it).  Things that can take advantage of the speed that USB 3.0 has to offer are things like external hard-drives.  USB 3.0 uses a blue connector on the inside.  So when possible, use the USB connector that will provide you with the biggest advantage.

Don't forget though, USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0 so if you connect an external hard drive that can use USB 3.0 into a USB 2.0 connection, it will work, but only at USB 2.0 speeds.

Might be hitting a power limit. When looking into some USB 3.0 GPU hackery I realised it will not give enough power to get even a GTX1050 running without external power.  ?

Though probably not in your case. I also get my USBs fail... but I think it's my old motherboard, or a short/static interference. :(

Check no ports are bent, pins stuck or wires frayed.

Very informative, but im am well aware of how the connectors work :)

I made sure that i filled up all USB2's first. but i might just have had to use one 3.0

I'm sorry, i meant devices, not ports

Looking at the MB spec page:

image.png.c4a02c779e514d53d3a5003a4cd117db.png

Wild speculation, please specify:

You have the back panel ports: 2 USB 2.0, 4 USB 3.0 (the red ones), 2 USB 3.1 Gen2, one of them a Type C

Then you have up to 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 on the front

so a total of 4 USB 2.0, 6 USB 3.0

plus the fan controller and AiO that take up the remaining USB 2.0 internal header and share bandwidth, both being presumably rather power hungry devices

How many fans and RGB stuff do you have? The board is supposed to have a total of 5 4-pin fan connectors, a water pump header and one RGB header.

I'd suggest trying to put the mouse and bluetooth dongle to USB 2.0 on the back

Keyboard, mousemat, webcam to USB 3.0 on the back

fan controller and AiO each on one internal USB 2.0 header = disconnect the front USB 2.0

Fingerprint reader to keyboard (if applicable) or front USB 3.0, headset front USB 3.0

Wireless charger to the wall or USB 3.0 as it's a high power device.

shortened the quote to not make a mess.

I indeed have all listed ports.
The AIO and controller both have a seperate SATA connector for power. So i dont think the problem lays there.

I have 3 fans controlled by the Commander Pro and 2 by the pumps connectors(fans on AIO).
All RGB of the fans in handled by the Lightning Node, also connected to the Commander Pro.

I don't want to give up my 2 USB2s on the front, but maybe it is better like this:: ?
Front IO USB 2 -> Commander Pro -> USB header
AIO -> seperate USB2 header

I can understand that, see if the USB disconnect settings work and if not, this might be worth a shot.

Yeah I only ever discovered it when my laptop spontaneously disconnected an external USB drive in the MIDDLE OF A BACKUP...

Been disabling it everywhere ever since.
