So I'm looking to set up a budget home media server for photos, videos, and the like. I've done some research already and have a general deployment plan mapped out, I just have a question regarding what drive to use. I'll be using a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ as a base for a NAS, and I currently have a Western Digital 4TB portable hard drive (link here) that I could easily re-purpose for this task, as it would be plenty of storage for the time being. I am unsure if it would be compatible with Linux, if the Pi can even provide enough USB pass-through power for such, or if the drive itself is suitable for long-term, infrequent, but random access as is the nature of a home-NAS. If it is not suitable and/or if you have any other recommendations please let me know.
