They are 2nd gen Ryzen, but with Zen at 14nm rather than Zen+ at 12nm

Just video watching and paperwork, even 200GE or 2200G will do, no need for 2400G

Just out of curiosity, are the Ryzen APUs, Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G, first generation or second generation Ryzen?

The 2200G and 2400G are second generation (but using a different manufacturing process to the other 2nd gen Ryzen chips)

Also, can the Ryzen 5 2400G run 1080p fine on not games but video watching and work?

Yeah, it should be no problem. In fact, a 200GE or a 2200G would be better since there won't be any demanding workload.

Neither, they are somewhat different in many ways.

For example Ryzen CPUs support ECC, Ryzen APU does not.

Ryzen CPU has double the PCIe lanes of Ryzen APU (though only 20 or 24 usable due to socket limitations).

Level 3 Cache is half of one CCX, wich means 1/4 of a 2600.

And to make matters worse, a 2600 is only like 10, at most 20€ more than a 2400G.

Buttom line: They only make sense if you need or want to use the integrated graphics.

And here is the advantage:
Those Ryzen APUs consume very little, way less than Ryzen CPU.

My Antec ISK110 is at around 20-30W with MSI B450I and Ryzen 2400G.
