Hey I was just wondering, what's the best FM2 socket CPU? I have an A8-5500 and wanted to upgrade.

I know the A10-6800K is up there, but what about the Athlon X4 750/60k?

I know that one is an APU and the other is a straight CPU, however in terms of their power, which one actually has more?

If there is a CPU even better than those, let me know. :)

I believe the 6800k is faster actually. The 6800k is clocked at 4.1 stock, while the 760k is 3.8.

You may want to wait for Kaveri to come out before you consider upgrading, since they are supposedly going to be quite a bit better and support Mantle.

Kaveri runs on FM2+ from what I've heard.

I imagine there backwards compatible?

FM2 chips work on FM2+ boards, but not vice versa. I meant that even if he does have to upgrade his motherboard it would probably be better to just keep his a8 for now (because he won't see that much of an upgrade with an a10) and to get a Kaveri cpu/apu and a fm2+ board once they come out.

I wouldn't do that then, I'd get a AM3+ then. I'm just trying to squeeze as much power as I can out of my motherboard.

I never really saw the point investing in out-dated technology. With Fm2+ you will hopefully have quite a bit of future cpu compatibility (although its hard to say at this point), I s'pose Am3+ would still be plenty powerful for a while yet though. What gpu do you have btw? If your a8 isn't bottle-necking it you may as well just stay with what you have for a while.

It's a pre-built computer. I'd probably build a completely new one later, but that'd be Intel based. This one is just going to get upgraded now that I know how to build a PC.

Alright, depending on what gpu you have you may be better off upgrading that instead, a8's aren't terrible cpus.

A10-6800k might overclock better than the Athlon X4 760k as well, but I haven't looked at it. I think the A10-5800k may be like the FX-8320 vs 8350 in that regard. Slightly less money but overclocks closer towards the next one up. 8350 is notorious for it's gigantic OC ceiling, though.

At this time, I'm hoping that the 7350k or whatever will OC a bit less than either of the two A10s, but be faster since it's Kaveri. I have a strong feeling it'll be like the 8350 vs 9370/9590 though, which means it'll be far worse for it's price at $50-60+ more than an A10-6800k..

A10 - 6800K is a good APU for FM2 all depends if you want a power saving chip there are others with low wattage usuage.

example an A10 - 6700 runs at 65W and the 6800K runs at 100W with simular turbo clock speeds.

got to love Asus components

Eh, it doesn't like when I do editing and rendering on it, it's LOUD. Lol plus I want my render times to be a little faster.

GPU can wait a little longer. I want to buy a mid range card for my AMD computer and a high range one for Intel.

Here is a link you may want to look at to see the performance increase between the two, there's some benchmarks if you scroll down a bit. Just so you know what kind of a performance boost you'll see if you do make the switch. Also the loudness problem won't be helped by getting a new CPU (may actually get a bit louder with the new one), you'd have to get an aftermarket heatsink if you want lower temps/quieter operation.

The 760K probably oc's better due to no integrated graphics.

If he's using dedicated graphics I don't think it would make too big of a difference either way, for in terms of price to performance the 760k is a big winner if the integrated graphics isn't needed.
