Hello,

My brother is getting very poor performance in general, he has been playing The Forest, Fifa 18 and Pubg lately. His specs are as follow:

Athlon X4 860K

EVGA GTX 1050TI SSC

2x8gb DDR3 1600Mhz

EVGA 430W 80+

I've tried just about everthing, from updating drivers, to a clean windows install, still games will stutter and have very poor performance even on low settings. Now I know his cpu may be outdated, but it shouldn't be that much of a bottleneck for a 1050ti and he games at 1440x900, so I don't get why he is getting such performance. His hdd is a very cheap 500gb laptop drive, could that be causing issues? Thanks

Wouldn't happen to be running on an old HDD would you? I've encountered a lot of stuttering once when trying to extend the life on my dying drives, before I realize how bad it can affect my games.
Also those games are quiet CPU intensive, so I would expect a lot of stuttering with this build.

That CPU can barely drive a 760 GTX and you wont get all the frames per second.  So not only you have a CPU bottleneck but seems like with the posts up top that you are committing the cardinal sin here in 2019 and that is to use a hard disk drive :( ..... Get a SSD Get 8GB more ram and overclock that CPU,,, eventually get him a new system, that CPU is a joke for todays demanding needs.  You can hold on to the SSD and RAM when you get new system. Oh shoot it will be DDR3 ,, so ya you gotta replace the mobo the CPU and the RAM.  Your ssd and PSU you can keep.

have you done any cristaldiskmark or s.m.a.r.t. tests on it? he might have a dying drive

No I haven't, perhaps I should check that, he is currently planning to get a SSD and leave the other drive for storing stuff

Yes I agree, however I don't think he'll be swapping mobo, cpu and ram right now, hope the SSD helps

The SSD will change your brothers life man.  Its heavenly.  Youll see when your OS boots in 10 seconds lol and your OS never slows down no matter how many programs you install or how big the registry size it.  Honestly there was a time back in the day when SSD first came out..... it was a better then to upgrade to a SSD then to buy the latest new CPU..... Also 8GB ram is shady,, That can cause hickups and stutters....

He's got 16 gigs of ram actually, yes I know I use 2 500gb SSDs in my rig, its a night and day difference from a regular hdd

Oh you do, cool.. Yes ,, I think that's your first thing he needs to upgrade to see instant performance boost.  The 1050Ti is not a bad video card but its still a gamer card where a 1030 sux balls in games but great on the desktop and what not.
