Guys, I don’t know if this is the right place to post this but I’ll give it a try.

i play black ops 4 on an rtx 2080 on practically all low settings at 1080p, trying to get the max amount of FPS I can. The problem is I’m getting maybe 120fps , often dropping below 100 FPS.

im not sure how this could be possible, here are my specs:

ryzen 5 2600

rtx 2080

16gb ram 3000mhz

Msi bazooka b450m mobo

750 evga 80+ gold psu

as far as I can tell there is no bottlenecking of the cpu while playing. What could be the reason for the performance?

Who the hell buys a RTX 2080 and plays at lowest settings at 1080p? Your graphics card is hardly doing anything at this point. This would be a CPU bottleneck, likely because this game isn't using all 6 cores. Even if you run at 1440p maxed out you probably won't see a big FPS difference.

To get the highest FPS possible in order to play competitively. Would increasing resolution equate to higher FPS then, if it alleviates the cpu bottleneck?

No. You have found your CPU's limitation at 100-120fps thereabouts. You will be able to increase graphics settings without a performance hit though. A CPU with higher single threaded performance (Intel generally) will be better off.

So I've discovered that increasing the games settings does negatively impact my games performance. in Black Ops 4 at least. Even moving up to medium settings drastically decreases performance and introduces jittering in game. I'm really at a loss, I'm not sure why my card would be performing this way.

It's probably because some settings increase cpu load as well. If you increase view range or details for example you increase the amount of draw calls the CPU has to make.
