Your CPU bottlenecks refresh rate/max fps, that one is probably good for 45-60fps depending on the game

That GPU can probably do 720p in modern AAA games

But are you buying that PC? if so budget/country?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

actually the cpu i have is core 2 quad q9500 with 4gb ram and gtx760 and Im thinking if maybe upgrading to an i5 and 8gb ram would be better

That GPU can pull ~40 FPS medium to high settings in most modern games at 720p. So 50 to 60 on low should be doable. But its also a by game scenario. Depending on the game the CPU could indeed be a bottleneck.

what about 900p? are 720p and 900p have a huge impact difference on fps?

Really wouldn't bother unless the i5 + motherboard(?)/RAM is nearly free

Your GPU is already going to be struggling as is.

For 900p It should be somewhere around 30 to 38 fps, as for 720p 40 fps and above depending on the title, though like i said this is for settings from medium to high, or mixed, tweaked. The CPU shouldn't generally bother you up to ~35 FPS, in most games it should allow for ~50FPS and a bit above, in some cases even above 60, but there are going to be dips to about 35FPS every now and then in intensive games.

Take this numbers though loosely as a very rough estimate to many modern AAA games (~2015 to the current time), it will or can vary based on game.

Probably Ryzen 3000 after it's announced at CES in January, though that would mean buying DDR4

It's supposed to be $99 for a 6 core 12 thread CPU, if nothing else first gen Ryzen and B350 boards(The ASrock Pro4 is the minimum recommended to buy) should be even cheaper by then as well.

OR if you can find a cheap i7 2000 that's decent at least, wouldn't recommend 4 core/4 thread CPUs from that era
