3D Printing Plastics

Is the plastic that is used in 3-D printers pliable? For example, I want to design a mount that use push in clips that can be pinched to unclip.

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

 

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

Yes. Although it isn't as strong as regular injection plastics, they have be durable enough to get by. Different materials can have different strengths as well

Depends on the material you want, commonly used ABS and PLA can flex and you can make mounting pins or clips for components. Most components in PC cases for example that use a clip or latch are injection molded ABS and can take some amount of flex if the part is designed correctly.

Okay. I was looking at making a vertical gpu mount. My university has 3-D printing available to students.

Instructions for frustration management:

It has spring to it, but I wouldn't suggest a vertical GPU depending on your case unless it's far from the side panel. There are also metal vertical GPU mounts that mount to the PCI-e bracket of cases

It may also take a few attempts to get it right, and don't forget that 3-D printers lcan't do overhangs too well.

The GPU will be watercooled, I would use those metal mounts but they take up all the slots, and I use at least two others.
