no sound on ubuntu

so i have installed ubuntu 12.04.3LTS on my laptop (asus F452EA).

there is no sound on the speakers(headphones work just fine).

both fully installed and live cd/usb versions have no sound.

sound works just fine in windows 8.

i have tried reinstalling ubuntu and put alsamixer volume at max

 

please help

Go start up the ALSA or is it ASLA sound manager and crank up the levels for the speaker.

What is the output for;

aplay -l | grep card

After you have your sound card, please try the following;

Open up the terminal and type the following to bring up and edit the following file;

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Next, add this line

options snd-hda-intel model=generic

changing the "generic" to fit your sound card. Though it may be worth a shot giving "generic" a shot first. Make sure you reboot after the changes. Also try accessing pavucontrol. instead of alsamixer.

IdeaStormer, I think he already put the volume up at max (that's what his post made me think anyways), which I'm assuming means he made sure his speakers are muted. The problem is that no sound is outputting through the speakers, only the headphones.
