Hi, my specs are Intel Core i5-6400, Nvidia GTX 1070, WD Blue 1TB (2012) HHD, DDR4 2400 2OZ 2x8GB RAM. I'm having troubling optimizing my PC. My RAM may not be running Dual channel and my HHD is a dinosaur. My CPU also seems to be under performing recently, I can't get stable frames in ANYTHING, from black ops 4 to Dragon Age Inquisition. I'm fairly new to computer building/tinkering, but I've been a PC gamer since I was 13. I recently changed out my old gtx 950 for this gtx 1070, but I did my research to make sure it was compatible with my z170 pro gaming motherboard, which it is. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!

I am also using a 500w corsair bronze power supply, which I understand to be the minimum wattage for the 1070

yeah, that's a topic for another day why that's not right. But if you're exeeding that, it would turn off, not underperforming. btw, do you have anything running in the background maybe?

also, quote me if you want my reply, otherwise I don't get a notification

This PC was ordered custom pre-built from XIDAX, so I assume everything is positioned correctly, they're a pretty reputable company

could you make a picture of the inside of the pc? btw, reputable? they used a cx500, so I kinda disagree

I have an HHD, not a HDD, but I ran a system cleanup to get rid of junk files and the like, which has sped up normal usage, but provided no help with gaming. I am thinking my cpu is just plain old and worn out and may need replacing, so I was considering upgrading to the i5 6700k so I don't have to fuss with the motherboard, and also moving all my data to a 1TB SSD. Does that seem viable?

Ok just made an account today didnt know about the quote, so I will take a picture and send it over. The original build had a gtx 950 in it, so the power supply was plenty for that.

You've got a HDD. No such thing as a HHD.

There's SSDs and SSHDs but those are a different can of worms.

SSHD is essentially a bit of SSD storage and a regular HDD crammed together into one frame.

a hybird? if you update your bios, you could get a 6700k or 7700k as maximum. but because it's probebly an h or b series, I would get the non-k versions

yeah... I kinda need the side

So unfortunately xidax decided to mount the HDD on the inside of the power panel attached to a seperate metal piece which blocks HALF the fov from the side of my pc. And the motherboard is on the other side. Besides that I will get into the guts of my pc and take out that HDD mount for a better view later.

What PSU would you recommend? Currently I have a CX500

tier c+ on the list down my sig. there are so many. higher is better of course, but keep in mind the list is only about build quality, not noise or value for example.

Btw the specific model is the ASROCK z170 Pro4S MATX. That's compatible with i7 6700? I don't plan on overclocking as I am not knowledgeable enough for that

it's compatible with any 1151 6000 or 7000 series chip. so both the 6700 and 7700 can be used here
