Hiya,

Wasn't sure on where to put this so I figured here would be a place to start.

I cannot get Plex to playback a 4K blu-ray. (Yes, of my own Blu-ray).  HEVC x264 MKV It's a big 46GB file for Justice League and I think it's something like 55mb/s ish.

My rough setup is as follows:

  • Ryzen 1600
  • 8GB RAM
  • GTX970
  • Media is on a 2TB 7200RPM HDD
  • PC Connected to internet via powerline adaptor/CAT5
  • TV is a Samsung 40" 4K HDR (UE40MU6120K) - connected directly to router via CAT5
  • Plex app runs on the TV

Now I think I know the problem.. Plex is streaming the file from the server via our internet. Which for us tops out at just under 40mb/s.    This is obviously the problem right?

How do I solve this though? Can't Pex play back directly from the server locally?  Although I think that depends on codec I guess right?

I'd really love for this to work. We did try making Plex transcode on the fly but my CPU couldn't keep up!  (Plus turns out my OC of 3.9GHz isn't 100% stable as it locked up after about 10 mins -- been totally perfect for the last 8 months!)

I'm having huge troubles with my powerline adapters which limit my network speed to about 50mbit/s. I guess that'd make 4k streaming impossible. Check yours aswell

Damn really? That is going to be a pain in the ass if that's the case.   Router isn't far away at all, like 5M straight line but it's through like 2 doors.

I know the powerline adaptors aren't throttling my actual internet speed because I tested with a direct cable and the powerline. I get the same.   BUT it may well be capped in terms of data.

EDIT:  I have these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/TL-PA4010KIT-Powerline-Configuration-Required-UK/dp/B01BECPIMC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1544824959&sr=8-3&keywords=tp+link+powerline+adaptor

@FloRolf Hmmm I think I just figured out what you mean....

Yeah there you go, not much left from gigabit network.

However 300mbit is still perfectly capable of streaming 46gb over 120minutes as that only requires about 56mbit/s transfer speeds.

That means your internet connection wouldn't be fast enough while I also think you are not streaming over internet. Simple reason is because I doubt you up and download are both 40mbit so it would saturate both at all times.

Try connecting it directly to the router just for testing and see how it goes.
