970/980?

Go to solution Solved by Hiya!,

Not really though, 970 is about equal to 1060 3GB while 980 is the 6GB version.

70E for 15% performance gain is a bit much at least IMO.

970 is still enough for 1080p gaming as long you can manage your expectation and not cranking everything to MAX especially Texture,Shadows,AA or anything that use a lot of VRAM because 970 only have 3.5GB of "USABLE" Vram although the extra 500MB is usable but its just too slow to be used.

I have the option to sell my 960 to a friend for 80E and buy a used 970 for 150E or an 980 for 220E from a local company that's upgrading their machines. A 1060 6gb here costs 260E and wasn't able to find a used one in a logical price. So, since I'm REALLY TIGHT on budget, I would really like your opinion on the subject. Which one should I buy? (1080p gaming) Is the 980 worth the 70E extra? Again, I'm really tight on budget here... Thanks!

The 970 and 980 are within 10-15% of each other in terms of performance, so just get a 970. It's plenty for 1080p gaming.

I owned both the GTX 970 and 980.

The 970 was a fail to me because it could not maintain 60fps at 1080 on the games I played at the settings I liked. I replaced it after about 3 months with the 980.

The 980 could maintain 60fps at 1080 on the games I played at the settings I liked.

It also was a good entry level card for 1440. I used it at that resolution until the 980 ti came out.

I still have the card in a computer hooked up the a 1080 60hz monitor even though I have GTX 980 tis and GTX 1080s sitting in boxes. There is no point in replacing it at that resolution and refresh rate.

I have owned all 3 cards, 970, 980, and 1060. The 980 is a few FPS better than the 1060.
