If i install a CFW on my PS3 slim(the first slim) is there an emulator I can run to play PS2 discs? I have a PS2 that has a Mod chip in it so i could play US games(I'm asian and I bought this while living in asia) and it recently broke down(not reading discs, controller not being recognized, memory card not being read) and I will probably purchase a new PS2 slim on amazon. Unless I can make my PS2 discs run on my PS3. So is there a way? if not, I don't really mind buying a ps2, mine lasted me 12 years, I think its a great system.

There were 2 backward compatible models. Both where the old fat style PS3.

The 60GB console and the US 80GB

The 60GB had the necessary PS2 hardware built in and would run all ps2 games.

the US 80GB model used a different bit of emulation hardware and the rest in software but would only run about 60% of the PS2 games.

All PS3 consoles will play PS1 games regardless of model.

Like @CoolBeans just get an emulator.

Or buy a PS2 on ebay they're like $40

P.S. The PS4 will ONLY play PS4 games.

I know there were backward compatible models of the PS3, I was asking if there was an emulator i can run with a custom firmware (CFW) on the ps3 slim.

Not on the "slim" or "super slim" PS3's the hardware isn't physically capable.

which is why I asked if theres an emulator. I know it doesn't have the physical PS2 hardware lke the originals did. I was asking about emulation on the slim models.

that is what I just said, even via emulation the PS3 is not capable of running PS2 games. It is not powerful enough to Emulate PS2 software in a playable way.

Ps2 games bought off the psn store use a ps2 emulator actually

Aactually the game has been modified to run on PS3 hardware, not via emulation. But Natively.

Actually no... The emulator is able to play many games but can be tweaked to play other it has be scrubbed and made to play other games also.

It's not modified games it's a emulator except GTA games

Wow sorry I was wrong. The article I was reading was about GTA SA and VC.

On a side not with Custom Firmware and some file flashing you can run most PS2 games on most PS3's. However the titles on the Playstation store are very optimised. If you do it with your own titles they will often crash and be very glitchy.

The console must have a firmware before 3.55 for this to work.

So I missed when all of this came out. I'm not sure how this didn't blow up and end up being a way bigger thing.

Probably due to people not having a 3.55 ps3 or lower (I have a 3.55 JP ps3)

It's how I play Tenkaichi 3 these days

I do but I dont have another switch box

Ahh, the age old problem of not enough inputs. One day they'll make an amp with 20 inputs instead of 4.

Okay so I needed to work this out myself, for months I've known how to play ps2 games on ps3 if u got an iso online and could download it as long as you had multiman or webman, but I have no wifi and it's an 8gb game (Gran Turismo 4) so I couldn't do that, but I have the disc and you can't play the disc straight up on a cfw ps3 (fat and slim only btw) but if you have multiman you can create an iso image for the disc and copy it to the PlayStation, then you can load the iso and play it, sorry if I missed anything I'm in a rush just search up how to play ps2 isos and follow my instructions on how to get an iso
