oh, in that way it would work, but I generally just do the fresh install with a hdd backup, works better imo

I would reccomend that, although you dont need to clear your storage ssds, just plug them in and if they dont work format them after a hdd backup

Okay so I currently have a budget build old hp.

it runs windows 7 and I have 2 ssd 250 gb (storage) and 500 gb(boot).

i believe my new computer I’ve built will only run windows 10 or atleast it would be smart to run that as some updates might be needed.

inhave a msi B360 gaming plus, i5 8400, 1050ti, 500w psu, many fans and water cooling.

i want to take my windows 7 ssd’s from budget build and move them to my new build.

what steps should I take?

my first thoughts are backup both ssd to a hdd, then upgrade my windows on ssd to 10 fully update then just move them to the new case and boot up. Concerns?

upgrading isn't possible anymore. I would back everything up (or at least the user folder and other important maps) and install windows 10 with a iso. do you have any pc's that have windows 10? you can create a iso with it

Upgrading does actually still work if you have an iso of win10 although, on my brothers PC nearly everything on his boot drive was lost...

Thank you everyone for your incredible responses this is exactly what I was hoping for.

mephii I will just do the fresh install as you have stated above that would be the smartest resolution to my problem.

appreciate the eagerness to lend a helping hand.
