Defragging external backup drive?

You are over thinking this. Just check it every once in a while and defrag if it reaches or exceeds 10% fragmentation.

U shouldnt need to unless ur deleting a lot of data from the drive or moving it around a lot.

As long as fragmentation stays below 10%, don't worry about.

As long as anyone is oppressed, no one will be safe and free.

One has to be proactive, not reactive, to ensure the safety of one's data so backup your data! And RAID is NOT a backup!
