WIN10 start menu broken

Whenever I try and search in the WIN10 start menu it either lets me type then proceeds to crash if I exit out or flashes black and then does nothing at all. For clarification, it does not crash the OS only the start menu and not the tiles I believe just the scroll through menu and search functionality. Furthermore, task manager says something like SearchUI.exe is not running or not responding. I have gone through some troubleshooting to no avail. I'm looking for some advice and would like to know if you guys think this is malicious as it seems to work right at startup or if this is some sort of boot error/corrupt OS. Advice is much appreciated.

This does not seem to be a keyboard problem btw as this post is being made on this very computer while McAfee is scanning and a indexing is underway.
