bad choice

what cooling do you have and how much overclocking?

Budget?

Firstly why is it a bad choice I will be streaming/gaming on it none stop also I will be getting a 212 evo for the first month then get a AIO Water Cooler. And the Budget is there. And overclocking will not be done for the first year because I'm going to be learning everything within next year.

Even worse if you do streaming

Streaming benchmark of 7700k included for comparisons:

Even for pure gaming, the $250 8600k beats the 7700k as it has 50% extra cores (HT only gives 30-40% extra performance), while having higher OC headroom. Not to mention boards that work with the 8600k also works with the 9900k, so upgrade path is there. 7700k cannot do that, the platform is dead.

MSI Z270 SLI Plus will be my recommendation

Not to mention that the 7700k was essentially just the 6700k with very little improvement.

The 7700k had the biggest generational jump in per thread performance, the 8700k actually being 1% faster, and the 9900k being 8% faster, and both only good for the extra cores. As for a motherboard, I recommend a Gigabyte GA-Z270-HD3, an EVGA Classified K, or an ASRock Z270 Extreme4.

I'm so confused. So I shouldn't go for the i7-7700k? I thought it was one of the best.

@qqqqqq I kinda already have the i7-7700k will it last me a long time I'll pair it with a 1050ti for the first 3-4 months then get either a 1080 or 1070ti. Also is it ok to be cool'd with a 212 evo for a month?

Yes at stock speeds or with a mild overclock you should be fine. I recommend de-lidding the chip as the benefits are insanely worth it.

Since you already have the CPU, look to the used market for a motherboard. New prices are excessive. A 1080 or 1070 ti are great choices, and the 212 Evo is just fine for a cheap cooler.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

The Z270 Taichi is amazing, it's actually not expensive anymore for what is a top tier motherboard.

Same! And I have a GTX 1060 which is not terrible, but most of my budget went into the i-7 Also I don’t think it’s a bad choice, I love the CPU it just gets really hot
