so i was playing some rising storm 2 and literally within the first 2 minutes the game froze and crashed. then i started it up again and there were artifacts everywhere. i tried restarting (turning it off and on again), underclocking, updating drivers. it's this on every game now. the artifacts flickers and changes on every frame of every game i play. menu and ui elements are all fine but anything that's being rendered is basically like this.

also it's a laptop gpu so if it's a hardware issue i probably will have change out the whole motherboard.

ok so you updated the drivers.

maybe uninstall the drivers and then install them again. it might be a corrupt install

That looks bad, you underclocked the gpu memory?

no no no it happened before i updated the drivers and still remains after i updated the drivers. i'm currently wiping everything and trying different driver versions but so far everything still has these artifacts.

nah bro. it's a laptop gpu so the only overclock i could do was with afterburner and even that only allowed me to over/underclock the clock speed, and only by a small amount. i'm not even sure if those afterburner overclocks even work on this thing since the performances seem relatively the same with or without the over/underclocks from afterburner.

DDU to be sure. also turn off any overclocks you have on the GPU and see if it still happens.

i've only been wiping drivers by hand through uninstalling them in the control panels and in device manage. if it doesn't work i'll move on to ddu.

Since you can take a screenshot of the error, it's not a dying card, it's definitely a software issue.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

That is likely the case.

so i have tried ddu.

the default driver that comes with windows still has the issue and the updated driver from nvidia still has it.

guys i have tried everything you said and it's still getting these dancing straw effects.

looking around on the internet now i know they are called stretched polygons.which actually make sense, only the polygons are affected, a lot of them.

any further software-related suggestions would be great.

also if anyone is wondering it's a laptop gpu, the 840m on an acer v3 572g 70wy.

Your GPU might be on its way out, then.

You could also try an older driver.

so um i have tried the following drivers

the drivers that windows install for the 840m

the updated version of that driver

the earliest geforce driver obtainable from nvidia's website

and the latest driver from nvidia.

all 4 drivers shows the signs above.

the only driver that i can possibly think of that i haven't tried is the windows generic vga driver which i do not know where to obtain/how to install.

I'd say your GPU is practically dead, then.

welp off to the shop i go. i'll see if they can do anything and if they can't i'm gonna have to fork out for a new mainboard which may or may not be as expensive as a budget pc build.
