Newly builded PC doesn't POST

Drozee

Hello everyone. I have recently build a completely new PC, and im having trouble getting it to POST. The specs are:

  • MOBO: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F
  • CPU: I7 6700K (Only momentarily) -  switching to I9-9900K in 2 weeks
  • PSU: AX860I
  • RAM: 2x Crucial DDR4 2400MHz 16GB (CT16G4DFD824A) for a total of 32G

When i turn on the PC, there's a little LED above the 24pin connector that says CPU and light red for ~half a second.

Afterwards there's a yellow LED that lights up next to "DRAM" and it stays like that for a couple of seconds.

A couple of seconds later the entire PC shuts down and resets.

Now a loop has begun, and these steps 3 steps repeats themself again and again.

-I've tried switching around the RAM to different slots, both mono and dual.

-I've tried completely removing the RAM. That resulted in the PC running for ~20 seconds but still without POST.

I don't have any other DDR4 RAM available to test with. But the RAM come from another build, where they worked fine.

Does anyone know any troubleshooting for this? I'm out of ideas, and so far lost all sanity from spending around 4K on a PC i cant even enter BIOS on :/

btw the upper yellow led in the video is the MemOK! turned on

The middle yellow is the DRAM

bottom red is the CPU

Ohh okay. I thought it would still work because its a 1151 socket. I'd just expect the CPU LED to shine continuous yellow or red, and not the DRAM. I guess ill just have to wait until i recieve the 9900k :P

The 6700K and 9900K use the same socket (LGA 1151) but they work with different chipsets. The 6700K is not compatiable with a Z390 chipset motherboard.

Intel really should have done something about that, like make a physical notch to make it impossible to put those CPUs in.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I think people should just do a little bit of research before buying a product.

"a little bit of research" results in people seeing that the motherboard is LGA 1151, and think it's compatible. Intel is responsible for making their products consumer friendly, even though people should be knowledgeable about their own belongings.

I put all the parts in pcpartpicker.com (with the 9900k) and i didnt get any problems . I just had a 6700k laying around, and it had the same socket so i just expected it to fit. So it's not that big of a deal. And i genuinely feel like i've done a fair amount of research, considering its my first "fresh" build.

There are plenty of people that post with questions about getting an i7 7700k or something and saving up for an 8700k, so you're far from the first.
