I just ordered archer C5400 and a two pack of the deco m9. Thinking of canceling the order and switching to just a archer C5400X. I was originally getting the deco m9's and the old c5400 so I could have the m9 covering the perimeter allowing for good outside coverage for spring and summer time and having the c5400 mainly for my hard wired office and gaming hardware. But thinking getting the better c5400x might be best bang for my buck only have a few hours probably to cancel and reorder so would like faster responses please. Router will be in a finished basement where the gaming and office is. I have the family as well and they will mainly be using it right above in the family room. But we also have a porch in the back of the house meaning it has to go through a staircase in the middle of the house towards the back side diagonal to where the router would be then through cinder blocks. We currently have a linsky router not sure of the model off the top of my head but we have trouble getting WiFi on the patio currently.

Well, my deco m5's are doing just fine for my 500/500 network with only one backboned. Might that be something?

I wonder if I could of got away with just m9's then was scared of going purely with mesh wasn't sure how hooking them into like a switch would work to get more cable slots. I have a giant L desk with 3 consoles a large smart tv two pc desktops and a imac all in that battle station hard wired. Not to mention the two laptops and phone as well as a lot of alexa's and google home's around the house. Just not sure what the best solution is.

Get the repeater if i were you, even with a router as good as the archer, there will be blank spots, only if you live in a small apartment you won't need a repeater.

Well, a mesh network would be great for that. Not sure if a m5 could hold it, but it's not the only option. And the maintenance with the deco app is much better than a web interface.
