How to attach VRAM & VRM Heatsinks?

Both thermal adhesive and .5mm thick thermal pads are available to me. Which should I use to attach VRAM and VRM heatsinks to a GPU?

I figure the thermal adhesive is more fail-safe, but it's also PERMANENT. Thermal pads seem like a no-brainer, but I'm worried that they could weaken overtime causing a small heatsink to fall off and land in the NZXT G12 fan. On the otherhand, the heatsinks are so small and lightweight that maybe the thermal pads can support them overtime?

What do you guys think?

Attached are pictures of someone else's project to show the size of the heatsinks. The first pic is without heatsinks and the second pic is with the heatsinks.

I will say, I purchased some small 0.25x0.25" heatsinks with thermal pads attached to them. Applied them with tweezers and held them for about 5-10 seconds each. I can still tap them and they will slide around a little and this concerned me at first. However after having them for a little while, I am assuming the heat helped make the adhesive a bit more tacky and bind better. They still move with a gentle push, but I throw my whole PC in a backpack like 3 times a week and travel anywhere from 60-80miles 1 way. I'm definitely not overly gentle and none have fallen off yet. I have since then just forgotten about them and they seem to hold up fine.
