"A poor man's Novec setup" OR "The most dangerous liquid cooling setup ever"

mukiex

This popped into my head and could probably not be a worse idea, but if anyone could be brazen enough to even consider it, it'd be here.

So with a few cans of neverwet 'n some painters tape, would it be possible to make a motherboard where every square mm with the sole exception of heat-generating surfaces is water-proof, allowing them to dunk the whole thing in distilled water?

I'd imagine the smarter way to start would be to grab a few RPi Zero, spray everything but the CPU/GPU, and dunk that in water. You use way less neverwet 'n if it fails horribly, you're only running on a tiny bit of DC power and you're out one $5 (though probably closer to $20 with current availability) board.

But if it does work at the larger motherboard scale, you could have something akin to the mineral oil rig with normal distilled water. Of course, if it doesn't work you have a crap-ton of power going into a big 'ole bucket of water.

But I thought I'd get my dumb walking-along-the-sidewalk idea out into the open and this seemed like the best forum to do it in.

I think kneadable erasers might work better.

Also this would be better suited in General Discussion or Liquid and Exotic Cooling.

This is bordering on mineral oil cooled systems where the entire system is dunked in mineral oil which won't short anything.
