Steam game download problems

Mattco

1 MB = 8 Mb

This is bit vs. byte. 1 byte contains 8 bits.

Steam counts in MB, speedtest.net in Mb (no the non capitalized B in the latter), which 54 Mbps calculates to 6,75 MBps.

So there doesn't seem to be anything wrong here. (If you are referring to the speeds that is)

yea, realized it wasn't downloading at the moment after posting.

You could try switching download server (In Settings > Downloads), but that will only be useful if you are from the US or a smaller country/somewhere near another country.

Considering that there's hard disk activity, I'd have to guess that it's downloading in chunks and unpacking them (installs that come from steam are compressed).

If you get Steam: Working when you hover your cursor over the steam icon in the system tray, then that is exactly what it is doing.
