Does this motherboard support DDR3 1866

4 minutes ago, zydm said:

Unfortunately, it does not. It only supports 1333 and 1600 MHz memory. See the manual for the motherboard by visiting http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/H97-PLUS/E9723_H97-PLUS_Guide_v2_web_high_res.pdf.

Why do you need 1866? It won't make a huge difference (or even noticeable) and if you have 1866 ram it'll just run at 1600 I believe

Any 240 Pin Low latency Non ECC DDR3 will work fine.

Would this work?

I have a Intel Core i5-4690k,

GTX 980 Ti

DDR3 1866 Ram

and 650W Power supply

would this work?

i'd be switching out an AMD FX 8320 and the motherboard with the intel Core i5-4690k.

Should work fine. 1150/1150 the RAM speed doesn't matter.

Does your PSU have an 8 pin CPU plug?

z97 for a plug-n-play usage. the z87 usually will need a UEFI update to allow the newer devils canyon to boot.

anything from basic main channel boards ASUS z97A, ASRock z97 anniversary work well.

might find the i5 choking a bit when loaded heavily with eye-candy on gaming, if so, boosting the RAM speed to 2400 or better can reduce the low frame-rate paces.

only change the RAM if needed, usually 1600 was best, but depending on games the higher speeds can reduce low frame-pacing.

yes it has the 8-pin (4+4) connector: 1 x 4+4-Pin ATX12V / EPS12V Connector

Ok so would I just be good to go to buy this motherboard with a CPU fan and thermal paste, put on the i5 when the parts get here and thats that?

Or do I have to like, do some other stuff?

idk!

pretty much any z97 mobo is what you'd be looking for to take advantage of the k part of the processor.

that h97 will work, but you will not be able to overclock for later CPU power needs.

if you dont have the stock CPU fan, yeah a simple cooler (case will dictate your HSF). a tube of TIM paste is always good to have.
