Z170A + KabyLake

So, I was just messing around with PCPP and set a parametric filter MOBO to go with an i7-7700k. It dropped in a Z170A motherboard, saying it may just need a bios update. So will my current motherboard support 7th gen Intel processors, specifically a 7700k with only a bios update?

 

I have MSI KRAIT GAMING 3X Z170A LGA1151 Motherboard and an i5-6600k at the moment.

Make sure to update the bios while you have a sky-lake chip

As others have stated, it will as long as you have an updated Bios. Here is the support and compatibility page for your board. It looks like Version 2.7 of the Bios gave Kaby Lake support.

i5 6600k @ 4.4ghz on Hyper 212 Evo

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

 

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe
