Ubuntu on Windows?!

According to an article by The Verge, Microsoft is adding Ubuntu, SUSE Linux, and Fedora to the Windows store.  The apps will run as virtual machines and allegedly have all the features of a full installation of the OS.

Windows Subsystem for Linux has already been around for a while. It's still in beta, but it's stable enough. It's not a virtual machine like VirtualBox. You can interact with files on the Windows system it runs on easily and by default, unlike a VirtualBox VM.

I know there have always been options out there, this is the easiest they have made it in a while.  This is probably to help students who want to use Linux on Windows 10 S.

No, the thing I'm talking about is the same thing as what you're talking about, but it was only Ubuntu 14.04. You could enable it in Programs & Features since the Anniversary Edition update. It's more for developers who use Windows that need to develop software for Linux servers; possibly Azure servers.
