I CALLED IT. sorry i need to say this for ego reasons.

btw, i retracted my statement abuot it being the best eGPU laptop because TB3 only comes with the 930mx. If it could be offered without the dGPU then it would be the best.

14"

I7-7820HQ

3.5 lbs!

FHD touch/non-touch screen

IR cam/security

trackpoint
mouse buttons!

The 930MX doesn't seem that good to me.

But the Latitude series is extremely rigid, where these ones get scratches and dents, macbooks are breaking beyond repair.

Yeah I wonder why they force that shitty GPU on you. It's barely better than the 630 HD.

on notebookcheck they said:

If there are any downsides to the 5840, its that the i7-7820HQ model requires the inclusion of a Geforce 930MX

lol, firstly, I wrote that article. secondly, I was actually wrong. Technically, it isn't the i7-7820 that requires the 930MX--it's the TB3. Only the board with the 930MX has TB3, apparently.

In the meantime, lets wait for the new Zbooks. Thinkpads already blew it. The Latitudes blew it. Down to HP's lineup to give us the eGPU laptop now.

Yeah Lenovo really fucked up with the new T470p by not giving it TB3, but still the laptop I am going to buy since I can only get the 5480 with an i5. I still don't really get the hype behind eGPU, but that might just be me...

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

I had some serious issues with the G3. I hope they fix it. The thing had worse battery life than a GS63VR.

I wonder precisely what their reasoning was. I mean, out of the T-series, the T4x0p model is supposed to be the powerhouse, right? Doesn't that mean it should have all the powerhouse bells and whistles?

And for the eGPU thing, I don't get it either. If you're gonna have a stationary tower, might as well be a proper gaming PC. I guess it's for people who can't reasonably buy two machines, but it's not like they're a value option in the first place...

The T4x0p is supposed to be the powerhouse that is easy to carry around, so it also seems very strange to me, a W540 had a TB1 port and the P50 and P70 both have TB3, so why skip it on the T470p? The T470s has TB3....

Well I think eGPU is for the people who wants a small PC that they can carry around and then just connect it to a GPU and play games, but a gaming laptop is often a better value, since a TB3 laptop is at least 1k and then a 300-500$ case for the GPU and then the GPU, so I can only see that it might be useful for very few people, since most people should be able to carry a 2.5kg 15" laptop around.

I just hope we start to see more laptops with a high-end CPU and no discrete GPU from all this hoopla.

yeah I also hope for that, since I don't need GPU that much.

I honestly believe it's eGPU is going to be value worth once we hit TB4 or use a PCIEout 8x slot. The MSI and AW in the current gen have decent proprietary solutions.

This is the email I got from Lenovo:

"With regards to your question, the T470 and T470s are part of our global workhorse program with a guaranteed extended lifecycle to support enterprise customer deployments. The T470p is not. part of this program and as such, we did not include Thunderbolt into this product. For customers who require a high-performance notebook with Thunderbolt, we would highly recommend our P series workstation models."

If you read that and think to yourself "that doesn't explain anything at all", you're correct! They don't want to cannibalize their P5x sales I guess

wtf, it is a ThinkPad in the T series how can it not be enterprise?  It is not like the T series p model could ever beat a W or P series in performance. The T series P model has always just been "I need a bit more power than a normal dual core can give me".

They just came with a bad excuse. I can see that it would hurt the P50 sales a bit, but they would most likely sell more T470p's if it had TB3, I could even see them earning more money overall, if they put TB3 on the T470p.

Wait a second. People who want a T470p with TB3 won't be looking to buy a full fledged P50 anytime. And people who need a full P50 wouldn't be looking at a t470p if it had tb3. wtf lenovo?

I don't know. I wanted to reply "that doesn't explain anything at all" but I'd just get stonewalled. The most I can do is write a news article.
