My first ever PC build (mid level gaming)

MaZah

hey guys, I just built my first ever computer on Christmas day, and i love it sososo much, and im so incredibly proud of it that i just have to show it to everyone on the interwebs. Linus and his videos were such a huge part i felt it would just be appropriate to post it on his forum :P So first things first, a little introduction, im 16 years old, and by the beginning of November i was still a complete noob in terms of computer hardware, like i wasn't completely clueless towards computers, i had a basic knowledge of what components are required, but that's about it. Also, i was very into gaming, i preferred pc because i knew it looked way better, and i basically started on counter strike and tf2 and half life. Everything mostly started when my mom suggested I build a gaming computer for a combined gift for both Christmas and my birthday (which was coming up at the time) and i thought about it for a while and decided it sounded like a great idea. So my journey began :P i started random google searches like how to build a computer, and watched various youtube tutorials and builds, and then i discovered Linus and his awesome videos. I basically learned everything from him, except random tidbits that i had picked up earlier on. So after I had built up my false sense of confidence, i started hunting down the parts, which admittedly is probably one of the best parts. I spent hours and hours searching for the perfect parts to fit my budget and looking at barebones kits on tigerdirect. Even when I went to Ofsaa For volleyball (basically the provincial level tournament for highschool athletics, which was a huge deal to me) I spent 90% of my time searching through all the black Friday sales that were on at the time. So on my way home from the tournament ( which also happened to be my birthday, which also happened to be the Saturday after black Friday), I happened to notice a sign for a tiger direct store, and basically begged my mom to stop and let me have a look around. I told her i didn't want to buy anything, i just wanted to look. YEAH, no i spend almost $700 on my case, processor, graphics card and power supply. And man was i shaking from excitement. later the same week i think, I ordered my hard drive and ram because i found some great deals on them, they were very cheap for what they are, and then maybe the week after that, i drove an hour away to pick up my motherboard because i found it on sale for like 50% off and a $20 MIR (lots of MIRs, so so many) And this was my first Noobish mistake, it was such a great deal that i forgot to check for internal USB 3 support -_- so just this previous week, i ordered a usb3 card, along with my cooler and fans. So that's the story of how it started and getting all of my precious components. So I figure I might as well list the specs:

AMD FX-8150 (currently OCd to 4.6ghz)

MSI R7850 OC Twin Frozr III (LOVE this card, i can run Far Cry 3 on ultra with some anti aliasing pretty smoothly when OCd to 1050mhz)

Corsair Vengeance RAM 8GB (2x4) (very pretty :3)

ASRock 970 Extreme3 (kind of a dissapointment, but still quality)

Thermaltake 750w 80+ Bronze PSU (overkill)

Seagate 1TB 7200 HDD

Thermaltake Overseer RX-1 Case (I fell in love with this case the first time I saw it)

Coolermaster Hyper 212 plus with 2 Noctua 120mm fans (extremely quiet and keeps my processor around 58 at 4.6ghz)

Silverstone internal USB 3 controller card (works pretty well, no complaints)

Keyboard: Razer Lycosa

Mouse: Cyborg Rat 5

So those are the specs, I got everything on sale (except the fans) so Im pretty happy with my value/performance ratio.

Now on to probably the most fun part; the build. I put this monster together on Christmas day at night, and it only took me a couple hours, which is honestly a miracle IMHO, I had no help whatsoever and i had never touched computer hardware before. The only problem i had is that when i first assembled it outside the case, it wouldn't post ,and it turned out I had made the terrible mistake of putting my RAM in slots A_1 and A_2 instead of B_1 and B_2 -_- But anyway, it didn't take me too long to fix that, and from there on out it was smooth sailing, and lots of fun. so much fun. Once again, I'm soso surprised that this went without any huge problems, mostly because of Linus' videos, and im sooo proud of it, it was honestly the best experience ever and ive learned so much these past few months.

So enough of me going on about how proud i am of it and how much fun it was, here are some pictures, and by some i mean a lot ;) They're mostly of the case however there are some of the components pre-assembly, and some of the innards. Please let me know what you guys think, if you can think of any cool additions i could add in the future, if you have any questions about it or if you guys just think its neat, I sure do ;p, like i said, its my pride and joy. i hope it lets me post these imgur links...

thanks guys,

cheers

Nice build; perhaps you might want to add another 7850 eventually since you have the PSU for it :P

I know!!! i love the case sooo much, im thinking of eventually adding a bitfenix alchemy strip under the window to increase the glow :3

yeah I think that'd be really awesome but Its just too expensive to get another, and i cant really justify it when it plays all my games on ultra :P like far cry 3
