The road to my new PC

RS2007GOD

Heres my situation: i have a budget of $1000-1500 but a little flexable as its build as i go. I have $500 RIGHT NOW for upgrades to my current pc(in sig) which i want to use the parts i buy in a Zen machine or maybe Kabylake. I have these lil problems i could use some advice with and what to get first or change in my master plan. Will not be upgrading for along while and must handle 1440p gaming on reasonable setting.

Im using a 750ti graphics card right now but was hoping to be given a new gpu which hasnt worked out, now im stuck on what to get. I want the rx480 but after todays video im wanting to do what i originaly thought about doing a few months ago and thats using the 750ti as a physx card. Problem is the rx470/480 doesn't support physx, so id have to settle for a 1060 which yes is a better card but CANNOT sli which has been a major issue with my 750ti wanting to sli. Cheap second hand 980ti maybe?

And yes i know its pointless having a physx card but hey i wanna do it anyway just coz i can.

Currently have a Cooler Master V650S which i understand is an "ok" psu but was a refurb when i got it about 12 months ago. Prefer to reuse this.

Using a old H100 aio atm which is a beast but old and noisy, looking at a Corsair 400c case and  H115i in push/pull with 4 ML140's . Also 2 ML140's and 1 ML120 case fans. This here alone is going to eat up a ton of my budget. Can possible get these now and use with my current pc?

Also just brought myself a shiny new 850 pro on a clearance sale for only about $30 more than an 850 evo(10 year warranty compared to evos 5 years also) to replace my crappy/failing v300.

My current pc: was my first pc build and holds a lot of memory's and a place in my heart. It started life as an old Athlon 64 x2 machine with a 8600gt and was an amazing pc in 2005/6? when my parents got it. Then a few years back i stumbled across it sitting in the shed collecting dust. Long story short, its now (or was) a pretty solid pc which tought me ALOT considering i hadn't even seen inside a pc before busting it open and replacing basically everything with old cheap parts. Including an AMD 7750 BE which tought me to OC and why trying to do so on a standard Athlon heat-sink from 2005 isnt a good idea :D

Anyway this $500 is burning a hole is my pocket and my mind wont stop racing thinking about what to buy as the most expensive thing id ever bought for my pc was the second hand 750ti for $100 and h100 for 50. I guess im going to turn this into some kind of blog about my upgrades on it from now on as i regret not doing it earlier. Any suggestions on things to do etc would be amazing!

Will add photos etc if anyone's interested.

A 2nd hand 980 Ti could possibly be the best option, just try to make sure whoever is selling could allow you to test it or has selling experience/reputation from others. Well, those 500$ would be great for a new gpu, which is a must if you really want 1440p. Then you should urgently get a cpu if your still with the 7750 Black Edition, since it will be an insanely insane bottleneck. Honestly, a I5-6600K wouldnt be bottlenecked by a 980Ti as it is by the 1080 currently without a good overclock. I say if the H100 is working well, try to clean it up properly and if possible change the fan and check for wornage/leakage and then decide wether or not it will be better. More fans is a good thing, but a case that comes with sound dampening material and several good quality fans post-purchase is always a good idea too. The 850 Pro if a 256GB model, shouldnt need an upgrade at all. I suppose after you get your 980Ti, without a proper monitor to utilize it its a blackhole XD. Gl.

Not a 7750 anymore now a Phenom x4 which will still be a huge bottleneck :D. Also not wanting to upgrade cpu/mobo until zen/kaby release. As for the h100 is does an amazing job really and would probably be perfectly fine on the new gen cpu when its released, maybe some new fans on that might be a good idea to make it look pretty, currently is push/pull with 4 sp120s. And yea ill be getting a 1440p monitor eventualy lol thanks.

  • 4 weeks later...

As a little update i have a friend who is upgrading alot of his gear soon and i may be able get a few things cheap. At this stage i havnt bought anything and have close to 1k to spend.

What i may be getting is:

G1 Gaming 980ti - $400nzd

400 gb intel 750 series ssd - $200nzd

Corsair RM1000i - $150nzd

Asus Maximus Hero VIII z170 - $150nzd

Also has a set of ripjaws ram 3400mhz he may or may not sell. Not that interested in the overkill ram but if he doesnt want to much for it ill grab it too.

Also the 1000w psu is overkill but for the money i think its worth it grabing. They are still $320 new atm.
