I need a thin gaming laptop, all of them will overheat regardless.

Not really. You are just not looking at the right models. Look at the Asus GL502

That's actually the first one I looked at, problem is, the reason it doesnt overheat is because it is really thick compared to the other ones that I mentioned, hence it being able to have a better cooling solution.

It's 23mm, that's 4mm larger than the Blade. Are you really telling me you notice 4mm?

Pretty sure the GS63 isn't cooled badly. MSI revamped their cooling system for Pascal which is kudos to them. You can check out the differences simply by opening the back. There's 1 extra heatpipe and 1 extra fan in the GS63 vs GS60.

I recommend the GS43VR. Unless you really like the 2 hours of battery you're going to get on the GS63. For some fucking reason MSI decides to put a 3 cell battery in the 63 and a 4 cell battery in the 43. GG engineering team.

Razer Blade overheats to fuck all. 95C on fresh game of overwatch. Fucked.

While the 62Wh battery in the GS43 is indeed superior to the GS63's 52Wh battery, the GS43 is even hotter and is certain to overheat.

the GS43 is thicker than the GS63. And of course it'll overheat, but not by much at stock, and for enthusiasts it's EASILY fixable as long as you don't try to run Prime95 + Furmark + Witcher 3. It's a bloody 14in.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/laptops/2016/08/25/msi-gs43vr-phantom-pro-review/1

Temps are hitting 80+ on stock. Grab some IC Diamond or CLU with a notebook cooler and some undervolting and this thing will be fine. Probably drop 10-15C combined and it'll be in the mid 70s which is amazing for a laptop this size.

The GS63 is cooled around the same because of it's thinner profile, and that fucks up how the fans operate.

If you're looking for thin and light, this is the best one there is.

@OP honestly though, grab the P650RS. Much better.

No you do not. Nobody "needs" a thin gaming laptop. If you actually, absolutely "NEED" a laptop well under 1" thick, then you might as well get a desktop to do the grunt work.

You don't beat the laws of physics, bro. I don't know why so many places tell people it's fine, but they really aren't.

BRUH. I will admit the cooling on the GPU surprised me at how thorough it was, but what the FUCK? The heatpipes are crossing right on top of the system PCH AND resting on the flipping HDMI port? I wouldn't buy this laptop at all. I don't care how well it cools the damn GPU. Fuck this shitty engineering. They should have changed the location of the PCH and OH MY GOD THE WIFI IS UNDER THE FUCKING GPU HEATSINK TOO THIS MACHINE IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN FUCK THIS THING WITH A 55-FOOT POLE WHY DID THEY NOT REPORT ON THIS BULLSHIT YOU DO NOT RUN HEATSINKS FOR A FLIPPING HOT MACHINE ALL OVER OTHER SENSITIVE EQUIPMENT WHAT

OP, buy the god damn clevo and live with the size or get an ultrabook/desktop solution. Ignore this piece of fucking shit MSI and the equally shitty Razer Blade, because the MSI will keep its GPU cool and everything else will burn in fiery hell, and the Razer will burn its GPU in fiery hell.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

AND I went and checked too. That GPU is throttling to all hell. They just said how they ran BF4 at 1080p "ultra" but how they disabled MSAA? And it gets less than I get with my 780M SLI at stock? That makes no sense. If that GPU is inbetween a 970 and a 980, which it is supposed to be, it should be getting FAR higher FPS counts. It's not near 100+fps where it'd be getting CPU limited, even with that piss poor 6700HQ. So there's definitely some other issue.

It throttles to a below a 980m level. Slightly above a desktop 960. They mentioned it in the article.

Doesn't that make the 1060 basically useless as it uses more power and outputs more heat to run slower?

In games it runs around 970m sli. The throttle was in sustained Unigine Heaven.

That means it's worthless in that machine. A 980M in that machine would be overclockable to all fuck with that level of cooling. It's pointless.

11 minutes ago, don_svetlio said:

It uses FAR less power, but it outputs more heat and even with that ridiculous cooling setup it runs slower, yes. AND all the other components are getting fried.

9 minutes ago, kareemk98 said:

In that laptop? Yes. It's fucking useless. In ALL thin laptops. They're garbage, pointless, waste of silicon.

8 minutes ago, Pendragon said:

970M SLI rapes 780M SLI. Those "970M SLI" runs don't even come close to my machine's sustained performance at stock. That means the 970M SLI machines they're checking are throttling through their assholes too. This entire review/test against other laptops is little more than a damn farce.

2 minutes ago, kareemk98 said:

No. A 980 would floor that system so hard it'd be some kind of unfunny joke. That 1060 doesn't even scratch a 970's expected performance, far less a 980's.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I CALLED IT.

CALLED IT CALLED IT CALLED IT @Dackzy @Pendragon @don_svetlio

I said Pascal and thin machines and anything under 15" isn't going to make a damn lick of sense. And you yourself have seen how ridiculous that cooling is, even with all those heatpipes they STILL shared the GPU cooling with the CPU's cooling. And it throttles so hard I could overclock a 970M and get better performance at much lower temperatures. Worthless.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
