Very Inconsistent GPU Usage

Hi guys

I recently upgraded my my graphics card and for the first couple of days it was great, however recently i started to notice games i play started to stutter a bit and the average fps across all games were decreasing.

i checked my on afterburner and i saw very inconsistent gpu usage.

My pc specs are:

i5 4670k @ 3.4ghz - 212 evo cooler

asrock h97 fatal1ty ( can explain why i have h97 )

8gb ripjawx

asus r9 390 stock clocks

fsp group aurum s 650w

help is greatly appreciated.

Hmmm - could be a PSU issue.

It's possible - if the PSU is defective and not supplying enough/clean power

Test the GPU in a different system

Hmmm. Anything new happen before the issue? Driver update, OS update, housefire?

Unintall Afterburner and anything that came with it. Check your fps with fraps. (sometimes AB fails epicly)

Your CPU usage is pretty high so that seems to be the bottleneck. Either you have something running in the background or you play CPU intensive games. I also have a 4670k and I can tell you I get similar GPU usage in some games and it's normal considering it's a mid-range CPU. I suggest you OC it, it should give you a nice boost.

yeah, i was afraid it was cpu, i cant OC cause im using a h97 board and its rather hard to find a z97 that doesn't break the bank and is in stock. i might just save up and get the i5 6600k and a z170 board.

What about your FPS in game while playing?

If your FPS is stable, you shouldn't worry about it.

While I'm playing Guild Wars 2, my GPU usage is jumping from 0% to 100% all the time, but I keep my 60 fps at most scenes.

for csgo, my frames stutter a bit same with bf4, csgo seems to stutter more though.

Did you try to run valley benchmark all on ultra settings?

When I use it, my GPU load is on 100% all the time (except during scene change for 1-2 sec).

It's not CPU heavy, so if you will have stutter and fps drop there, something might be wrong with GPU.

Some games are not best optimised and that will cause weird GPU usage (jumping up and down instead of 50% stable GPU usage or smth).

But valley benchmark will try to pull every bit of power your GPU have, so give it a try :)

yeah i ran valley, and there was some dips to 0% gpu usage, most likely scene changes. looks like i need to upgrade my cpu and mobo.

You might as well just upgrade your mobo alone since you have an overclockable cpuand if that's not good enough then you could go for a 4790k instead.

I think everyone get that GPU usage drop to 0% while scen is changing. That's like 1 sec or something.
