980Ti Classified Thermal Paste

shawn finkenstead

After seeing a post over at Overclock.net about the Classified and it temps I went ahead and changed the TIM. Actually pretty easy on this card. Only had 4 screws to remove and the cooler fell off. The paste that was on it was dried out and peeled off. After changing the TIM the card runs 2 degrees cooler (lol). That will be ok until I get my Ek water block for it.

It might look like a lot of paste but its thin and I put it on the way EK recommends. When I get my block I will update this post with pics and temps...

Sure is. Cant wait to get the block for it. These stock coolers struggle. Cant wait to see how Gpu boost acts with temps sitting around 50C all the time.

I'm in need of getting blocks for my classifieds as well. Did you order them straight from ek? Or is there a site in N/a that still stocks the 780 classy block?

just out of curiosity what kind of temps are you getting on this card before and after you re-did the TIM and at what kind of fanspeed?

been thinking about doing this myself but never done anything like that to a gpu before...honestly I just hesitate because I find the idea trying this intimidating. I actually have 2 of the same gpu's. Seems like the margin for sloppyness on gpu thermal paste is much higher then a cpu.

Going to order straight from Ek. I haven't looked around at any one else. I just seen a post about Bitspower supposed to be releasing a full cover block.

100% Fan speed stock volts and stock clocks I was hitting 68C. After I am hitting 66C running 3dmark Firestrike. Really need to get my block.

Don't be nervous. This was my first time to. There are 4 screws and 2 wires to unplug. One for the led and one for the fan. Watch this video.

wow...100% fan speed must be very loud :(

my ASUS strix run at 74c with 50% fan speed and i can't push the fans faster otherwise it gets too loud for my liking :(

lol yeah Only set it to that to see what temps would run off to at max fan speed.

A guy form overclockers said that if a 980ti classy goes over 60 at 100% fan speed the TIM could be at fault. So I tried and found its my cooler.

i assume your case has good airflow...the temps remain similar with the side panel opened?

i ALMOST bought a classified card myself but in the end i decided i'd save the 80$ and go with ASUS a decision i've been regretting since especially when i saw how hot and loud the strix card is but now it seem like the other ''better'' cards are running hot too so it make me feel better :)

One thing i did learn was at 58C My Classified seen its first drop in Gpu boost from 1405 down to 1392. Then again between 66C and 68C i seen another drop in boost to 1380 where it stays.

Yeah they stay the same. I am using 6 intakes and 1 exhaust. I like knowing my gear is flooded with fresh air!!

do you have the ''prioritize'' set to power limit? because my card hits full boost regardless of clockspeed...the only thing preventing it from going higher is the 110% power limit on the card...not  temps...and my card as i said will run 75c in games...GPU boost is a bit weird sometimes though...but i do get 1440mhz even at those temps.

My card is only a 70% asic....do you know what yours is?
