Mobo question.

Darell3

Hey guys im in the stage of upgrading (finally) and i have come across the Motherboard "ASRock 970 Pro3 R2". My question is...

1. Will this motherboard do fine for overclocking?

2. Does it support FX-Processors?

3. Is the motherboard durable?

4. Is the Company (ASRock) a well known and trusted company?

Thanks,

Darell3

1.

990 series are the best for overclocking, but the 970's aren't bad.

2

yes

although I'm not sure if it requires a bios flash for the Vishera processors or not, most likely not since it's a 2nd revision most likely supports them out of the box.

3.

not sure as I haven't owned this motherboard.

although it's newegg reviews seem pretty bad.

this one costs the same amount but has better reviews.

4.

ASRock is reputable,I'm pretty sure they used to be a part of ASUS,they used to make the value oriented boards.

Correct and I believe I have read that ASUS wants to buy ASRock back for some reason.

OT: You can't really go wrong with motherboards these days, just get a reputable brand and the correct socket and whichever chipset fits your needs and you're good to go.

really?well considering that ASUS' value boards don't compare to ASRocks value boards in terms of price/performance ratio I wouldn't be surprised.

and ASRock also has great high end boards as well so....

I'd go for the one I suggested above

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157305

because it's got better reviews than the other one for the same price.

thanks for the suggestion, but i live in NZ and there isnt a shop that sells that motherboard, also im not familiar with ASRock Motherboards and ive heard reviews of alot of DOA motherboards from them.

a large amount of motherboards have DOA's,and it only seems as if they have alot of DOA's because not everybody who buys one reviews the product.

typically if your happy with a product you won't review it,so while there might be,say,70% of people happy with their ASRock motherboard,I'd say only around 20% of those 70% actually post a review.

whereas of the 30% that has issues probably around 90% of them will post negative vent review

so if this product had 100 reviews then 27 people would post negative reviews,14 would put up positive reviews, and the rest didn't bother to review at all.

of those 30 a good amount probably had self caused issues,or damage caused by the shipping company.

you can't go off of reviews alone, you need to go off of your own knowledge,so you need to buy their products first, and then decide for yourself if it's good or not.

but consider this, even if say you got DOA,RMA'd 4 times and all boards were DOA,it wouldn't necessarily mean it's a bad company.because they make millions of boards,if say only a few hundred or even a ten thousand are DOA,it's only 1%,assuming they made only 1000000 boards.and a 1% DOA rate is amazing.

you have to consider that luck is a factor in pc parts.

so find a board that you like, and go for it.if possible you should spend atleast around $100 on it since below it tend to be value boards where the manufacturer may have skimped on some parts.

I would go for a ASUS or a Gigabyte motherboard. ASRock motherboards are like cheap versions of Asus.
